Michael Angelo visited Cambodia for two weeks this autumn to photograph the cultural landscape of Southeast Asia at the invitation of Ms. Sochua Mu – a Nobel Peace Prize nominated human rights activist who has dedicated her life’s work to ending human trafficking, domestic violence, and worker exploitation in that conflicted country.Sochua Mu served as Michael’s guide during his travels in Cambodia, allowing him an insider’s access to the cultural, economic, social, and political life of Cambodia. In order to support the enormous efforts that Sochua Mu undertakes to secure democracy in the war-torn Khmer Rouge stronghold, Michael will sell his photographs of Cambodia at the reception; all proceeds from the sale of the photographs will be donated to Sochua Mu so that she may continue her tremendous work. We are honored that Sochua Mu will join us at the benefit. As the first woman to hold the position of General Secretary of a political party, Sochua Mu heads Cambodia’s leading opposition party in the South West of Cambodia, an area still heavily affected by malaria. Sochua Mu travels Cambodia training women in civic participation and political leadership, as she believes passionately that building women’s leadership will strengthen Cambodia’s democratic process and improve the lives of all Cambodians.
